South Dakota

from the album

South Dakota, South Dakota,
Dontcha know, I've been there.
Felt the dust and rain on
my face and in my hair.

Back in 1994,
travelin' past Mount Rushmore,
We surveyed the Badlands,
Crazy Horse and red clay sands,
Driving through the Black Hills far from home.

South Dakota, South Dakota,
Dontcha know, I've been there.
Felt the dust and rain on,
my face and in my hair.

It was me and Boogie Bennie,
no we didn't have a penny.
As it stood we were plum tired,
Still we had to build a fire,
Wouldn't you know, that night it rained oh so hard.

The air got cold the birds stopped singing,
Wind was blowing, pines were swinging.
Endless sky split down the middle,
Cobalt blue, black as a griddle.
Full moon lightin’ up Cathedral spires.

South Dakota, South Dakota,
Dontcha know, I've been there.
Felt the dust and rain on,
my face and in my hair.

South Dakota, South Dakota,
Dontcha know, I've been there.
You take a left at Minnesota,
Stay the course, and you’ll be there.
